Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze the symbolism of the Waystation. The Waystation is a magical refuge for fighters, misfits, and people/creatures who are resistant to the evil Triumvirate of emperors. The Waystation even seems to be sentient, anticipating and reacting to the needs of its visitors and residents.

Class Discussion: What is the Waystation? How do Apollo and his friends get to the Waystation? Who runs the Waystation? What are Apollo's first impressions of the Waystation? How do Calypso and Leo feel about the place?
Small Group Activity: Divide the class into small groups and ask each group of students to create a mind map with the word "Waystation" at the center. Ask students to go back through Part I of the book and document the words, feelings, events, and ideas related to the Waystation. When students have finished...
