Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss how characters are looking for purpose, and why having a purpose is important. Donna is not doing any real police work. She wishes she had a purpose other than serving tea or marking bikes at the primary school and that she was chasing murderers or thieves.

Class Discussion: What is Donna's job? What did she expect she would be doing on her job? What does she do on her job? How do the tasks she is assigned make her feel useless? Why is she bored? How would her life be different if she was on the Murder Squad? What purpose is she looking for? Why is having a purpose important?
Activity: Divide the students into small groups. Have each group discuss what gives Joyce purpose in Chapter 13. Why does Elizabeth call Joyce? How does Elizabeth respond when...
