Cast a Film

Ask students to cast the play as a film adaptation from actors today. Why would they choose whom they choose? Describe their vision of the characters.

Set Design

Give students the opportunity to design a set for the play. How would they choose to depict Petruchio’s country house? How would their scenic transitions take place?

Contemporary Influences

Students are to conduct research and complete a 1-2 page paper discussing the influences of The Taming of the Shrew on contemporary art, theater, and film. What plays or films make reference to Shakespeare’s comedy?

Draw a Character

Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the play. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the narrator’s description to some extent. What kind of attire does Katharina wear? How does her physicality differ from Bianca’s?
