Objective
Objective: The roles in Will's world are slightly reversed in that he is the one that takes care of his mother and he is only twelve years old. The objective of this lesson is to look at family interaction.
1) Discussion: What effect did Will's father's disappearance have on him? What effect did his mother's illness have on him? Explain.
2) Classwork: Have the students list other literary works in which there are family connections that play a crucial role, at least two and no more than four. Which literary works did they choose to look at and what made these works unique to them?
3) Homework: Have the students list several of the attributes that makes their family unique. Examples might be large number of children, grandparents live with the family, work on a family farm, have a family member with a disability. Then see if the students can...
