Objective
The objective of this lesson is to analyze how interdependence affects the relationships between characters in Jemisin’s novel, Stone Sky. The early chapters of the novel feature multiple scenes of characters relying on each other for survival and success. Essun relies on the people of Castrima to take care of her during her coma, Nassun relies on Schaffa during the attack at Found Moon, and the tuners' work suffers from the loss of the tuner Tetlewha. In this lesson, students will examine how these and other interdependencies shape the relationships of the novel's characters.
