Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1 – 7)
Objective
In this lesson students will explain the meaning of the book’s title as well as the setting of the novel. Students will explore the many strategies an author uses when choosing a title. In this lesson we will explore the ways authors aim to attract audiences through their choice of title. We will focus on ways to interpret the meaning of a book's title using several strategies.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Why is the title of the book is important to the overall novel? What is the main setting so far? Why might the author have selected this setting for his story?
Group Discussion: Does the title of the novel refer only to the men from Boulder? What do you think the title represents? Does the phrase, The Stand repeat itself several times in the novel? Does this phrase also function to emphasize the parallel theme...
