Binary
As a class, attempt to understand binary language and how it works. Each student encodes some personal information as a binary number (such as age, birthday, gender, etc), while other students attempt to translate the number and correctly guess its meaning.
Make a Program
Divide the class into groups of 3-4. Each group uses the Internet as a resource to teach themselves the basics of a programming language, and together create a simple program. Depending on the technical inclination of students, each group can divide the labor into planning, management, coding, testing, and so on, in order to maximize their abilities.
Industry Jargon
In the spirit of the term 'canard,' each student creates their own jargon word or buzzword and writes 1-2 paragraph explaining the meaning of the term along with a fictional anecdote of how the term was coined.
