Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine the setting in "The Skylight Room." The setting or settings in a story can serve as a backdrop for the characters or almost take on the role of a character. The setting can also evoke feelings, set the mood in a story, or point to a theme. Setting also includes when a story takes place.

Class Discussion: Where does the story take place? How does Henry present the setting? Does the author use photographic details or present details through suggestion? What does the setting indicate about the various characters? What feelings or attitudes does the setting evoke for the characters? Is the setting a neutral background, not important to the story, or does the setting take on the role of a character? Explain.
