Lesson 1 (from Part I (pages 5 - 75))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to compare and contrast the character traits of Charlie Sisters and Eli Sisters. Although the brothers are united by their family ties and their work as assassins, they have very different core characteristics. Students can use a Venn Diagram to help identify the characters' common and different character traits.
Lesson
Class Discussion: What are Eli's and Charlie's most important and formative shared life experiences? At what point in the novel's opening chapters did you begin to discover how very different the brothers were? How do they each approach their work for the Commodore? How do they each approach the idea of relationships with women? How do you think each one feels about their relationship with the other?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into pairs and ask them to make a Venn Diagram. One circle will represent the character...
