Part I (pages 5 - 75)

• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: deWitt, Patrick. The Sisters Brothers. Harper Collins, 2011.

• The novel begins in Oregon City in 1851. It is written in the first person, past tense. The narrator is Eli Sisters.

• The chapters are short and un-numbered, but there are three titled sections (Parts One, Two and Three) and two Intermissions.

• Part One is titled Trouble With the Horses. Eli was sitting outside the Commodore's mansion, waiting for his brother Charlie to come out with orders about their new job.

• Eli had just gotten a new horse named Tub after he and his brother both had their horses killed on their last job for the Commodore.

• Eli had been very fond of his old horse, and it had been burned to death along with Charlie's.

• Tub was portly and could not travel as fast...
