Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the novel. Students will discuss facts about the author that are included in the book. Students will research information about the author and analyze why she may have written The Secret Lives of Church Ladies.

Class Discussion: Who is the author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies? Where is she from? How old was she when the book was published? How was her work received by the public? What other works has the author written? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
