“Eula” and “Not-Daniel”

• The first short story, “Eula,” begins on page 1.
• Two women, both 40 year-old schoolteachers, meet in a Clarksville hotel for their annual New Year’s Eve celebration.
• It is 1999, so Y2K looms over this year’s celebration.
• Eula booked the room and her friend supplied the three bottles of Andre Spumante.
• The story is narrated by Eula’s friend, who has also brought the food: sushi for herself, and potato salad and cold cuts for Eula.
• After the first bottle of wine the women take a hot shower.
• Eula remains in the shower long after her friend gets out.
• Eula’s friend watches her, head bowed, in the shower and wonders “if she’s asking God’s forgiveness...
