Objective
The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt is a biography of 26th U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris, covering largely the years prior to Roosevelt’s Presidency. Morris opens his Prologue with a detailed description of Roosevelt as he greeted guests on New Year's Day, 1907. Students in this lesson will read the Prologue and will analyze and discuss Theodore Roosevelt’s intellect, physique, and legacy as President of the United States.
Lesson
Reading Activity: Give students time in class to read the Prologue of The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. Students may read aloud, in groups, or silently in the class. Ask students to take notes during their reading regarding the Prologue’s tone and subject, Theodore Roosevelt.
