Prologue – Chapter 3

· Brandon Hobson’s epic novel about family, tradition, grief, and spirituality comes from the perspectives of four narrators: Maria, Sonja, Tsala, and Edgar.
· There are 22 unnamed and unnumbered chapters in this novel, each opening with the name of the narrator and a date. For clarity purposes in this Lesson Plan, numbers are assigned to each chapter.
· The Prologue is the only narrative that comes from a third-person narrator.
· The Prologue is given the title “Ray-Ray Echota” and the date September 5.
· The setting is indicated as well, which is Quah, Oklahoma.
· This Prologue describes the day before Ray-Ray Echota was killed, 15 years prior to the main timeline of the book.
