Lesson 1 (from Part I (Pages 1 - 36))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Changez's descriptions of himself and of his background to the American Stranger in Part I. Changez seems to approach the American Stranger at a cafe in Lahore at random, and offers his services to the stranger to help translate and order food. Changez also ends up telling the stranger some of his own past and about his connections to America, including the fact that he graduated from Princeton University and worked for a short time in New York City. Changez tells the American Stranger, without wishing to sound conceited, about his exceptional intellect and his success in landing a very competitive job, despite not being from the upper echelons of the wealthy American social class.
