Objective
Students will study the author's use of foreshadowing within the prologue and within the whole of Part One of the text.
Kate Moore masterfully employs foreshadowing at many points within the creation of The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women. One example of her use of the literary device of foreshadowing is present in the whole of the prologue. The entire prologue is devoted to telling the story of the scientist who had been lent a piece of radium by the Curies in service of his scientific lectures about the element. Slowly, the radium he puts into his pocket inflicts his body with severe burns and he is left struggling to make a connection between the wonder element and the harm done to his body.
