Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss Tess Gunty, exploring the other works she has written, as well as her background. Tess Gunty, the author of The Rabbit Hutch, is a bestselling novelist. She is best known for her novel The Rabbit Hutch.
Lesson
Class Discussion: What can researching Tess Gunty's background and her other works tell the reader about the novel? Does Gunty always write in the same genre? Can a connection be made between Gunty's background and the issues she explores in the novel?
Small Group Activity: Have students get into pairs and prepare a presentation, using their research on Gunty and her canon. Have each group read an excerpt from different works written by Gunty during their presentation. At the end of the presentations, have students compare the tone and style of the novel with Gunty's other works.
