Chapters I - III
· The following edition was used for this lesson plan: Savage, Thomas. The Power of the Dog. Little Brown, 2001.
· The book begins with a quote from Psalms saying to protect me and my loved one from danger – the power of the dog.
· Chapter I started off with a description of cattle castration, saying Phil was always the one to do it.
· Phil and George, who owned one of the largest ranches in the valley, could afford just about anything but, due to Phil’s distaste for the current cowboy trends, he did not even own an automobile or any fancy attire.
· The narrator says that Phil and George were more than just brothers or business partners; they talked as the old friends they were.
· Although Phil graduated from college in California the same year George flunked out, they both equally made decisions regarding the cattle...
