Objective
Students will explore the ways in which people evaluate ethical choices.
In "The Possibility of Evil," the main character believes that she is faced with an ethical dilemma: should she upset people with anonymous letters or allow "evil" to flourish unchecked? To the reader, it is not much of a dilemma, but it offers Miss Strangeworth a way to excuse her actions. This lesson offers students insight into genuine moral choices as a springboard for evaluating Miss Strangeworth's actions.

Reading Activity: Distribute copies of Brown University's "A Framework for Making Ethical Decisions" (available online). Give students time to read and annotate or take notes.
