East Coast Beats and Jack Kerouac
The Portable Beat Reader is an anthology of the major and minor players of the Beat Generation as well as several authors who followed in its shadow. Ann Charters, the book's editor, includes biographical history of the authors and the evolution of the Beat Generation as well as the literary movements which coincided and followed it. In today's class, students are introduced to the anthology, The Portable Beat Reader. Students will research and discuss an overview of the time period and events from which the Beat Generation arose.
