Thematic Poem

Taking one of the themes discussed in class, ask the students to write a poem of their own based upon this theme, in whatever style they choose.

Structural Poem

Using one of the Beat's poems as a guideline, ask students to write their own poem using the same style and structure of a Beat poem. Theme may be of their choice.

Documentary

In 2009 there was a documentary released about Lawrence Ferlinghetti and his association with the Beat Generation in San Francisco. Watch this video with the class and discuss it as a group.

Research Paper on One Writer

Give students an opportunity to find a source material from which one of the excerpts in the book is taken. Read the material in its entirety and write a paper discussing it.
