Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine the religious beliefs of the Harps, and what is communicated about their love/hate relationship with Catholicism. Clemence is a devout Catholic. Other members of the family have differing levels of involvement in the Catholic faith.

Class Discussion: How many members of the Harp family are devoutly Catholic? Who is the most invested in the church of family members? Why do Evelina and her brother attend church? Why do they attend a Catholic school? What conversations do Mooshum and Shamengwa have with Father Cassidy about Catholicism and its beliefs? What do those conversations reveal about the beliefs that Mooshum and Shamengwa have? How are their beliefs a mixture of Catholic and Native American spirituality? How do the two religious systems contradict? How does the Harp family have a love/hate relationship with Catholicism?
