Lesson 1 (from Section 1: Prologue-Chapter Three)
Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is to acquire basic background information about the mystery genre. The Perfect Mother is intended as a piece of entertainment, an intellectual puzzle, and a vehicle for several related social messages. For the most part, it relies not on the conventions of literary texts but on the conventions of mysteries in order to accomplish its aims. This lesson is intended to deepen students' understanding of these conventions in order to increase their understanding of and appreciation for The Perfect Mother.

2) What are some subgenres of mysteries? Do these subgenres still follow the conventions that you listed in #1?
