Preface
• Friere uses the preface to introduce the main idea of the book; that pedagogy is everywhere, and it is being furthered by schools, political institutions, and more. At times of extreme social and political upheaval (such as during the War on Terror, or the Troubles in Britain, the Cold War and worse) these pedagogies are a tool for the ruling political elites to control the rest of the society beneath them. The purpose of this book is to understand that process and to counteract it.
