Objective

Chapter 1, The Emperor, pg. 1-15

In the beginning of The Passion, the reader is introduced to Napoleon and the main character and is transported back to Napoleonic times. In order to prepare the students for this transition, an introductory lesson to the time period and historical figure is warranted. The objective of this lesson is an orientation to the time period that the novel is set in and the historical figure that is present in the novel.

1.) Class Discussion: Lead a discussion with the class on the following: What do you know about early 19th century France? Who was Napoleon? What do we know about him? What was Napoleon famous for?
