Objective
The objective of today's lesson is to examine the author Cormac McCarthy. Students will research the author's background and previous books. Students will explore how the author's outlook on life and personality might shape The Passenger.
Cormac McCarthy has a writing style that is sparse, yet expansive and surreal. He has written several acclaimed novels that explore the dark depths, complexities, and contradictions of humanity. McCarthy is fascinated by math and physics and the subconscious. McCarthy has been deeply involved at the Santa Fe Institute, an institute dedicated to the formal analysis of complex systems, for the last 25 years. McCarthy has a love for metaphor, symbolism, and turning classic themes on their side. Students will explore the author's background and personality in order to help them make connections as they read the book.
