· Raman’s house was the last one on Ellman Street.
· He would lay out a plank of wood brushed over with black or white base and leave it out to dry on the sand.
· Raman had had trouble, a couple months before, with a lawyer who was setting up his office on Kabir Street, and who had ordered his nameboard to be delivered on a certain auspicious day.
· Earlier, Raman had been button-holed by the lawyer at the market gate.
· At the market gate, the lawyer told Raman that he had just passed his law exam, and he needed Raman’s help to create a nameboard.
· Raman happily agreed to help the lawyer, who told him he wanted the nameboard before...
