Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss Hornclaw's invisibility, and what it reveals about the treatment of senior citizens. When Hornclaw gets on the subway, no one pays attention because she seems to be a typical senior citizen. No one pays attention to senior citizens unless they are troublesome.

Class Discussion: How is Hornclaw described at the beginning of The Old Woman with the Knife? In what way does she seem to be a typical senior citizen? Because of her appearance, how is she ignored? How does she seem to be invisible? Why is she referred to as a model senior citizen? How are Hornclaw and senior citizens ignored? When is the only time someone pays attention to a senior citizen? What does it mean when the narrator comments that a schoolgirl at a nail salon "looks at Hornclaw, then frowns and scoots sideways...
