ELLA - In this chapter, the reader gets their first impressions of Ella and her superficiality. The reader learns of the many romantic relationships in her life and the way that she treats her servants. The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the character of Ella and to discuss whether or not she is a sympathetic protagonist.
Lesson
1.) As a class, create a list of adjectives that are used to describe Ella. Why is she such a desirable woman?
2.) As a class, compare/contrast the romantic relationships that Ella has with Dimitri and with Franco. What is the same about these relationships? What is different? Is there anything unexpected/surprising in this comparison?
