1. What is Homer's opinion of his Uncle?
Homer thinks badly of his Uncle Squinten and for good reason. For years Squinten has kept him and his brother Harold in poor conditions and simply because he hates everything. He hates the sun because he says it hides the coming storms, he hates his horses because they cost him hay and he hates Homer and Harold because he has been forced to look after them after the death of his wife. Homer tries not to take it personally, but it is hard when his uncle forces him to live among the animals in the barn.
2. Why does Squint become angry with Homer in this section?
In this section, Homer is so hungry that when he sees a piece of bread floating in the pig slop, he can't control himself; he runs over and stuffs it in his mouth. Squint marches over and tells Homer that the bread is meant for the pigs and is about to strike Homer when Harold pushes Squint over.
