Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1-6)
Objective
The aim of this lesson is to examine Crabbe's point of view.
Lesson
1. Class discussion. Why do the students think the author tells the story from Crabbe's point of view? How different would the story be if it was told from a different point of view? Is Crabbe's point of view reliable?
2. Ask the students to choose a character from the opening chapter and rewrite a scene from their point of view. What do they think of Crabbe? Is their character different to how Crabbe portrays them?
3. Divide the students to two groups and ask them to examine the following sentence. Crabbe is an unreliable narrator. One group should think of an argument in support of the statement and the other group should think of an argument against. Conduct a debate between the two sides.
4. Homework. In preparation for tomorrow's lesson, research the London setting.
