At the beginning of the novel, the reader meets Jack, who seems to be stuck remembering his past and disappointed with the present. As the novel opens, he is in his nineties, but he remembers the time in his life when he was a young adult. Jack is clearly the protagonist in the novel. The objective of this lesson is to learn about the protagonist in The Memory of Old Jack.
