Objective
The Maze Runner is a young adult dystopian science fiction novel by James Dashner; it is the first novel of a trilogy by the same name. In the first three chapters, the reader is introduced to Thomas, a boy who remembers only his first name as he ascends in an elevator and finds himself in a large courtyard surrounded by boys. Objectives for this lesson include researching author James Dashner, identifying the genre, tone, and narrative style of the novel, and discussing the exposition revealed in Chapters One through Three.
