Objective

In Part 1, Chapters 1 and 2, the author first compares Alexander to many other famous leaders. He also describes Alexander's life up until the age of twenty-one. This lesson will discuss these two chapters and the events described in them.

Class Discussion: To whom was Alexander the Great compared? Why was he compared to these individuals?

Small Group Activity: Create a KWL chart for Alexander the Great, listing what is known about him up through Chapter Two and what the students would like to know about him.

Class Discussion: Have the students share their KWL charts and create a class KWL chart. As the students learn more about Alexander the Great, have them add this information to the KWL chart. What events in Alexander's childhood foreshadow his successful future? What characteristics has he acquired from his parents that might aid him in being a great leader? How...
