Objective
Students will explore background information on O. Henry and American Naturalism in preparation for reading "The Marry Month of May."
"The Marry Month of May" is a characteristic example of O. Henry's love of wordplay and twist endings. It is also an excellent example of Naturalism. Because students often misunderstand Naturalism and are unlikely to know O. Henry (outside of a possible familiarity with "The Gift of the Magi,") this lesson gives students background on the author, his style, and the literary movement that he was a part of before they read "The Marry Month of May."
