Author's Note to Chapter 4

• The book covers different time periods from the past to the future.

• The chapter abstracts use the present tense and provide a linear summary.

• Each chapter follows a different woman and is titled with the woman’s name and the year her story takes place in that chapter.

• In the “Author’s Note,” Ford shared how his son, Taylor, came to enjoy the same music Ford enjoyed as a boy, even though Ford had never played that music for him.

• At first, Ford thought of it “as a strange and humorous parent/child coincidence” (xiv).
