Objective
Students will analyze the many different elements of the cover art chosen for Rudyard Kipling’s story "The Man Who Would Be King” in order to deepen their understanding of the connection between the story's thematic context and the particular photograph of Rudyard Kipling chosen to grace the work’s cover.
Visual literacy is a very important skill to foster in today's world and the artwork featured on the cover of Rudyard Kipling's story "The Man Who Would Be King" provides an excellent opportunity to teach students skills in visual literacy. One edition of the story includes a photograph of the famous Kipling looking dapper and decidedly posh in his impeccable three-piece suit and spectacles.
