· To facilitate study, this Lesson Plan assigns and references the unnumbered and untitled Song sections in numerical order.
· Following a dedication, a gloss of family trees, and an epigraph, Song (1) begins with a protracted discussion of familial origins.
· A section titled “The Boy Named Micco” describes the geography of Micco’s origins and his immediate familial history.
· A historical gloss of the area is provided, noting the colonization of the area by slaving English settlers and their predations.
· A new section, titled “The Grandfather of the Boy,” reaches further back from Micco, noting the arrival of Micco’s grandfather in the area as a young man.
· The potential perils of the young man’s arrival are noted...
