Lesson 1 (from Part One: Prologue, Chapters 1 - 2)
Objective
The Light Between Oceans is a historical novel by Australian author M. L. Stedman. The novel’s prologue opens on April 27, 1926 and introduces the reader to Tom and Isabel, the main characters of the narrative. The prologue also sets up the inciting event of the story: the discovery of a dead man and a living infant washed up on the shore of an island in a small boat. In this lesson, students will research author M. L. Stedman, read the prologue, and analyze the narrative and language styles introduced in The Light Between Oceans.
