Draw a Character
Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the novel. Artistic ability is not important, but the drawings must reflect the type of dress worn by the character, whether the character is fat or thin, bald, prim or slovenly. What colors does the character wear? What sort of emotion does the character show?
Watch the Film Adaptation
Give students the opportunity to watch the film adaptation of "The Last Song", and then write a brief paper discussing the similarities and differences to the novel. How did they feel the actors portrayed the characters?
Improvised Interview
Have students in groups of two come to the front of the class. One student will act as "Interviewer" and the second student will portray a character from the novel. Have the students improvise an interview, asking how the character feels about other characters in the novel, their motivations...
