Cover and Front Matter, The Legend of the Just Men, and Chapter 2, Part 1

A lot of information about a book is contained on the cover and in the front matter. Today's objective is to examine those pages to predict what the book will be like, and to analyze the nature of the calling of a Just Man as we read about it in The Legend of the Just Men, and Chapter 2, Part 1.

Lesson

1) Group Discussion: What do you make of the cover art for this book? What do you imagine the fire represents? The bird? The change of colors? Read the summary of the story on the back cover. How does this summary relate to the cover painting? Why do you think a summary of the book would be included on the outside cover?

2) Individual Reading/Writing: Read pp. 3-31, "The Legend of the Just Men...
