Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine Eustace's struggle to fit into his brother's world, and what is communicated about roles related to gender and status. Eustace spent his early years more interested in books than knightly pursuits. Although he has changed during the last five years, he still displeases his brother with his struggle to fit into the world of men and knights.

Class Discussion: What health issues did Eustace have as a boy? How did his health lead him to be more interested in bookish pursuits than sporting events? How did his bookish ways make his father and brother feel? How did his bookish ways cause Eustace to play a different role than his father and brother expected him to play? How have the last five years wrought a change in Eustace? How has Eustace begun to be interested in sporting events...
