When the waitress questions why Lou does not carry around a weapon he tells her he does not need one. He thinks people are only aggressive when you are aggressive to them, for example if you pull a weapon on a drunk man his first instinct is to react in kind. Though people question his choice, he says he has never been proved wrong.

Lou travels to Joyce Lakeland's house, a local prostitute. She thinks he is a customer until she comes back into her bedroom with Lou examining the gun she keeps in her drawer. She is even more angry when Lou reveal he is a policeman, attacking him with her fists and screaming that she hates cops. Calmly, Lou throws her onto the bed and beats her behind with his belt.
