"The Italian" was published in England in 1797. It was the last of Radcliffe's books to be published during her lifetime and is one of the most famous examples of Gothic fiction in the English language. This lesson will focus on the reception of the novel and its place in history.
Lesson
1) Individual Presentations: Have students research the reception of the novel and its place in history. Have them take notes and prepare a short presentation. Have students present their findings about the reception of the novel and its place in history to the class in under five minutes. Keep notes on the chalkboard.
