Maturin and his wife have a very odd relationship in that they hardly even live together. Maturin is a scientist and his strange hours are to accommodate his studies and such. His wife, however, is very social and is constantly throwing or attending lavish parties. They basically live two separate lives, but keep their marriage in tact through it all.
