• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: King, Stephen. The Institute. Scribner, 2019.

• The first section of the novel is titled “The Night Knocker” and is narrated by a third-person omniscient narrator.

• Tim Jamieson sat aboard a delayed Delta flight headed from Tampa to New York when a flight agent announced that a federal officer needed a seat; the person willing to give up his or her seat would receive a hotel voucher and $400.

• No one was willing to leave the plane, however, and the flight agent soon raised the amount to $800.

• Tim was suddenly seized by a desire to get off the flight; he stood, announcing he would give up his seat for “two thousand” as well as “a cash refund of [his] ticket” (5).
