Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is to acquire background on the setting of The Housing Lark. The Housing Lark takes place in Brixton, London, among the West Indian immigrant community. Although the time period is not specified, it can be assumed to be the early-to-mid 1960's. Such a remove in time and place from students' own experience may present an obstacle to engagement and understanding. This lesson offers students a chance to learn more about the novel's setting and prompts them to consider how this setting might shape the characters' beliefs and experience.
