Objective

Epigraph:

The students will hypothesize as to the meaning of the Epigraph and its purpose for this book.

As an epigraph is used to give the theme of a book, the Epigraph is an important place to start to learn about the purpose of this story. The Epigraph includes an excerpt from a poem and a Hindu proverb. The poem tells of the struggles that one faces until one reaches a place of peace or freedom. The Hindu proverb warns the reader to not miss his or her chance at a blessing. Once the students understand the meaning of the Epigraph, they will then come up with ideas as to what might happen in the story they are about to read.
