Memoir

Many prisoners have written memoirs about their time in Gulag. Read one of these books and write a short report comparing/contrasting information about the camp as found in both these texts.

Drama

Choose one of the scenes in the memoir to act out with your classmates. Each student in the group should be a part of dividing up the lines, and all should speak in the scene. Have each group give a performance of its scene in front of the class on the last day of the unit.

Shadow Box

Use an empty shoebox to recreate a scene from the memoir. Puncture a hole in one side so that the viewer can peer through and see the scene in 3-D.
