This entire book is formatted in a letter correspondence style. The objective of this lesson will be to discuss the importance of communicating in this style, and to examine some of the benefits that can be reaped from setting up a book in this format.

1) Introduction of Lesson Topic: When the first students come into class, have them write about their personal opinion of snail mail letters. Do you write letters? Why or why not? Do you think personal letters are important? What kind of things would you write about in a letter to the important people in your life? Allow some volunteers to read their ideas.
